to find out about the Yate Community Plan
Yate's Community Plan is Moving Forward...
Hundreds of residents of Yate were involved in contributing their ideas to the Yate Community Plan, a visionary document reflecting the local aspirations for the future of the town. With the help of a grant from Yate Town Council a resident led community group got it off the ground and it was launched to the press and public in September 2008. The question is what’s happened since?
Following the launch over 30 volunteers signed up to the new Yate Community Plan Implementation Group. The group has met quarterly to prioritise and progress 12 key actions from the plan. Each of these themed actions is now being progressed by an existing or new Yate Town Council, South Gloucestershire Council or Community Group. Some examples of progress are listed below:
- Local businesses are being contacted by South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) about what support they need during the recession and beyond. A networking group and business breakfasts may be developed.
- Work to identify allotment space and create a location map of green areas in Yate is being done by Yate Town Council.
- Accessible routes for disabled people are being audited around Yate Town Centre and local conservation areas by AccessAbility. They will be working in partnership with different groups to make the changes needed.
- South Gloucestershire Council are working on connecting up the Frome Valley walkway in Yate with Chipping Sodbury.
- A new Friends of Yate Station Group has been set up to get users of the station involved in ideas for improving the station, train and bus services.
- Architectural plans for a Youth Café in the centre of Yate have been drafted up and some funding has now been secured for this project by Yate Town Council.
- Yate Leisure Centre are keen to begin new pool activities e.g. water polo for young people and the local Youth Forum are getting more young people signed up to the Active Card so they can use their local leisure facilities.
- Research is being done into the development of electronic noticeboards around central points in Yate which would showcase up to the minute information on local activities and services on offer.
